in europe, an electronic bike is considered as a normal bike like in Australia.
it cost in China about 180$ (in France about 1200$)
that’s why i was interested to buy it in China and ship it in France …. but it seems a little complicated ….

I’m not sure about Europe but in Australia the laws are not designed for electronic bikes.

I have a look and it was about $1,000 USD for electronic bike http://www.electricbicycle.com.au/cruiser_nomad.html which was rather pathetic. They Have some electric scooters but in Australia you have to have a motor bike license.

This makes them very unattractive in Australia and we ended up just buying a normal scooter when we returned to Australia.

From memory the following issues made electronic scooters expensive in Australia:
1. The scooters needed to be certified for the Australian market. It is expensive and there are not enough buyers in Australia to make it profitable.
2. In Australia scooters are classified as motor bikes and taxed, require motor registration, similar to motor bikes.
3. The scooters have a higher markup in Australia.

All of this combined caused my $600 scooter in china to cost about $3,000 in Australia.

I’m not sure what Europe is like…

Nice info. I currently live in Shanghai. Moved from California. I am designing my own method for learning Mandarin so it was interesting to read you blog. I totally agree with the passive/active method. That is what I have done since college. Enabled me to get three bachelors in four years.

I am an mcse/ccnp so I read your IT tool box. I didn’t see Safari on there. It is an amazing browser, I have been using it for a few months. Robust, fast and I can save pages without waiting. Great for video too.
